Region 5-AAAA Standings-Week 2

Here are the Region 5-AAAA standings after Week 2 as published by the Georgia High School Football Daily.

No Unanimous No. 1 Teams

There are no unanimous No. 1 teams in Georgia, not even Camden County or Carver of Columbus.
That’s because computers have their own ideas.

Panthers ‘Grow Up’ in 34-31 Loss

LAWRENCEVILLE – The maturation of the Chapel Hill Panthers continues. Falling behind 34-7 in the second quarter, the Panthers roared back with 24 unanswered points only to fall short in a 34-31 road defeat at the hands of the central Gwinnett black Knights. “It’s exciting to come back, but it still hurts to lose,” said head coach, Chris Parker. “We don’t look for moral victories, but I’m proud of how we came back.”

Panthers look to rebound against Black Knights

Chapel Hill will be looking for their first win of the season this Friday when they travel to Central Gwinnett. The Panthers are also hoping to avoid something that has never happened under the three-year watch of head coach Chris Parker.

“We haven’t lost back-to-back games since I’ve been here,” Parker said at Tuesday’s practice. “It’s been nice when we’ve lost in the season we’ve been able to win the next week.”

In order for the Panthers to do that, they will have to put last week’s 31-21 loss to East Coweta and stay focused on Central Gwinnett.

Buford unanimous #1

Georgia High School Football Daily’s first composite state rankings show that there’s only one unanimous No. 1 team in the state – Buford in Class AA.

Below are the rankings from AJC/GHSF Daily (AJC), the Associated Press (AP), GaSports.com/coaches (GC) and MaxPreps (MP). In future weeks, we hope to add the Maxwell and Massey computer ratings. They currently aren’t up to date.

We also note that a score discrepancy might’ve influenced the AP and GaSports polls. It has been reported that Washington County defeated Jefferson County. Instead, it was a 21-21 tie.
