With two games left in the regular season, tomorrow night’s game against Lovejoy poses a definitive threat to Chapel Hill making it into the post-season.
The Wildcats (3-5, 3-4) sit in seventh in Region 4-AAAAA while the Panthers (5-3, 4-3) sit on the bubble in fourth place.
A loss to Lovejoy is not an option for Chapel Hill.
But in recent weeks, the Wildcats seem to be adopting a ‘if we can’t make to the play-offs, we’ll mess it up for you attitude.’
Case in point – two weeks ago the Wildcats dumped Creekside 15-14 in a surprise win to most region sportswriters. Last week, Lovejoy erased a 22-0 first half deficit against Westlake (2nd place in the region at 6-2, 6-1) and battled to a 29-21 loss, scrambling to tie the game as time expired.
Head coach Al Hughes was quoted in an area publication this week saying “…If we can get healthy and get on track, then we might surprise some people at the end of the season.”
According to the same article the Wildcats credit their improved play in recent games to better execution at the line of scrimmage on both offense and defense.
“David Washington and Deante Ridgeway are a couple of the guys that have been playing better. … It’s just been execution, and taking care of their business,” Hughes was told NeighborNewspapers.com.
