Alright, I know what you’re thinking … “The Drive for Five”?
Nobody put that thought in my head … it just popped in there on a flight back from Washington, D.C. Monday evening after a whirlwind week of doing my Army Reserve gig. That’s what 10 hours of sleep in three days does to you!
But, think about it; it is a true statement.
In order for the Chapel Hill Panthers (3-2, 2-2) to have a shot at a second consecutive post-season, they really should look at it as “The Drive for Five”.
After last week’s stinging Homecoming loss to Pebblebrook, the team appeared pretty focused when I visited Tuesday’s practice session.
“It’s unfortunate anytime you lose a game but you learn from it and come back to get better,” head coach Chris Parker said.
“We’ve got five games left. We need to work hard these next five games. If we learn some things from Friday that will help us in the next five, then that’s what we’ve got to do.”
Mundy’s Mill scored their first win of the season last week against Morrow … coincidentally in a 20-17 win. Talk about de ja vu! Up until that game, the Tigers never scored in double digits in their previous five losses, having been outscored 113-25.
“We’re going to have to play well to win, just like anybody else,” Parker said. “Anytime you’re playing AAAAA football, you know, that’s the highest classification in Georgia. Week in and week out we’re going to have to come ready to play.”
Don’t forget, the game is SATURDAY, Oct. 10 at Twelve Oaks Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. So hop in the car, grab some friends and come out and support the Panthers as they start “The Drive for Five”!
